Our mission
The mission of Carolina Science Outreach is simple: the popularization of scientific ideas to the people of South Carolina.
Our goal is to reach out to people of all ages, from elementary, middle, and high school students, to adults in the community at large. We hope to take various topics in science, whether they be those of Wind Energy initiatives in SC, Particle Colliders in Switzerland or discussing scientific validity in movies, and deliver them in an effective yet enjoyable fashion.
The CSO Lecture Series
Every year, CSO will invite a nationally-renowned outreach guest to Columbia. Last year's guest was Dr. Arthur T. Benjamin of Harvey Mudd College.
Learn MoreScience for everyone
Carolina Science Outreach began as a research grant from USC's Magellan Scholar undergraduate research program.
The co-founders of CSO outlined three target groups in SC: the community of active adults, high school science clubs/classes, and elementary/middle school students. With our younger audiences, our hope is not only to promote scientific awareness but more importantly, to help foster a lifelong interest in science and perhaps even a desire to pursue a career in science, math, engineering, medicine, etc..
